  • Cervical Screening
    • Cervical Smears
    • All women who have ever been sexually active should have regular cervical smear tests every three years between the ages of 20 and 70. This includes women who have been immunised against HPV. This test detects abnormal cells which, if left untreated, could become cervical cancer. Very often these cells are made abnormal by a human papillomavirus (HPV) which is a sexually transmitted virus. Regular tests and treatment reduces the likelihood of this sort of cancer by around 90%.
    • For more information about cervical smear tests click on the link to the National Screening Unit website http://www.nsu.govt.nz/current-nsu-programmes/national-cervical-screening-programme.aspx or watch this short video -  ProCare’s new one minute video, which encourages women to have a cervical screen and book your appointment today.
    • This service is provided by our practice nurse smear takers; Margo and Michele and our relief nurse Wendy.
  • Breast Screening
    • The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation recommends women between 40 and 49 have a yearly mammogram and once every two years from 50 years.

When you are aged 45-69 you are eligible to enrol with the Breastscreen Aotearoa Programme for a free mammogram every two years.

Please phone the nurses for information on who to go to for your mammogram and a referral form, or talk to your Dr about it on your next visit.

If you wish to decline your mammogram, or for any reason you do not wish to be on our recall system for a mammogram, we would greatly appreciate it if you would please phone the practice nurses. This will prevent  mammogram recall letters being sent to you.
